California Study

A study of 50 at-risk elementary students found that five months of Barton Reading & Spelling instruction led to significant gains in phonological awareness, memory, and rapid naming.

Florida Center for Reading Research Review

The review concluded that the Barton System, a structured, sequential Orton-Gillingham–based phonics program, effectively helps struggling readers, including those with dyslexia, build reading, spelling, and writing skills.

Orton Gillingham Literature Review

Reviewing multiple studies, the literature shows structured, multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham instruction consistently improves word reading, decoding, spelling, and comprehension for struggling readers.
